Telkom Internasional to Be Fully Operational in May 2007

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) has assured that Telkom Internasional, its subsidiary abroad, will be fully operational by May 2007. The subsidiary of Telkom is projected to expand state-owned overseas telecommunication company.

Managing Director of Telkom Rinaldy Firmansyah has said that in the initial phase of the operation, Telkom Internasional will cooperate in developing a network with the world's bigger telecommunication operator such as BT Group Plc (was British Telecom), UK, and Singapore Telecommunication Limited, Singapore. “It will be aimed at supporting the target of Telkom growth,” Rinaldy told Tempo at Bidakara building, Wednesday (04/25).

He stated that the partnership agreement with SingTel in order to broaden the global network of communication services some time ago was a pioneer that will mark the operation of Telkom Internasional. The partnership was completed in order to meet Telkom's target in controlling 70 percent of the market of data communication services for corporations in Indonesia in 2007. This year, the business value of the data market is estimated to reach Rp2.5 trillion.

Data communication service is an Internet protocol-based service which aims at uniting a company's network that has broadened in other places. The service will help a company to control the performance of its branches.

Through the cooperation, he went on, it is expected that SingTel and Telkom can achieve 11-12 percent of the data communication business value in Asia Pacific, reaching US$500 million in 2007. “We have also built similar cooperation with BT,” he said.

TELKOM Contributed 100 Computers in order to strengthen Jejaring Pendidikan Nasional in West Java

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) delivered 100 units of personal computer to be distributed to schools in West Java in order to make the program of Jejaring Pendidikan Nasional more effective. The contribution was delivered by the Marketing Senior Manager of Enterprise Division of Telkom, Nurul Hermina to the Head of Departement of National Education (Dinas Pendidikan Nasional) of West Java , Dr. Dadang Dally in the “Sosialisasi dan Survey Jardiknas” for 16.000 Bandung high school students in Sasana Budaya Ganesha Bandung (April 2, 2007). The event was organized by IZI Consulting – a education consultant located in Bandung and would be held in April 2-5, 2007. There was also High Education, Training, and Technology Exhibition 2007 involving IT experts from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).
The Vice President of Public and Marketing Communication of Telkom, Eddy Kurnia, said that the cooperation between Telkom and Depdiknas had a very strategic value for education world’s development in Indonesia . This program was aimed to build the access and ICT’s usage maximally in education world with first priority is to the event distribution of IT access. For it was being concerned important, this program then gathered a wide support including support from Indonesian IT experts such as Budi Rahardjo, Ph.D. dan Ir. Dimitri Mahayana, M. Eng –both are lecturers of Sekolah Tinggi Elektro dan Informatika (STEI) ITB.
Depdiknas –through its cooperation with Telkom- have had and will always keep developing a infrastructure network of national scaled communication data which connects central of Depdiknas with dinas pendidikan offices in cities of Indonesia and universities. Telkom’s infrastructure usage which is being conducted widely in Indonesia , as Nurul Hermina stated, is fully hoped to make an effective jardiknas program so it may support the progress of education process nationally at last.
The usage of Jardiknas today includes : Jardiknas Kantor Dinas/Institusi (Diknasnet), Jardiknas Perguruan Tinggi (INHERENT), Jardiknas Sekolah (SchoolNet), serta Jardiknas Guru dan Siswa (TeacherNet and StudentNet).

Digital Divide
The contribution of 100 units of new PC by Telkom, according to Nurul Hermina, is aimed for schools in West Java which haven’t had their own computers. This priority is held to realize the vision of similarity of chance to progress through the chance of even distribution in accessing information for students in West Java .
According to the perspective of national telecommunication, Jardiknas program may reduce digital divide among schools in all rural areas which are relatively left behind compared with other schools in cities. “We’ve seen the contribution of 100 PCs to schools in West Java as the part of Telkom’s corporate social responsibility as the ICT operator to the society.

Improving competitive superiority
Through the cooperation, Jardiknas is hoped to bring up the collective awareness of educated society in Bandung dan West Java about the importance of information and communication technology –especially Jardiknas- in the world of education. Furthermore, the collective awareness is hoped to enable the rising of collective energy to accelerate the usage of information and communication technology in improving the quality of education process.
The cooperation is also hoped to be the role model for a good cooperation of many elements of society, especially ABG (Academician, Business and Government) who are together supporting the development of national education. Taken as the example, this event would like to represent the A (Academician) as IZI Consulting which involved eligible experts such as Budi Rahardjo, Ph.D (IT experts from ITB), DR. Ir. Dimitri Mahayana (ITB), Ir. Khairul Ummah, MT (ITB), Ir. Agus Ngermanto (ITB); the B (Business) as PT Telkom Tbk; and the G (Government) as the Jardiknas and Depdiknas of West Java area.
Eddy Kurnia said that at last, the final goal that would like to be achieved is the improving of Indonesian competitive superiority commonly and West Java particularly, as the result of a good information access support in the world of education.

TELKOM Flexi Achieved “The Best CDMA Provider”

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk. (Telkom) through its product TelkomFlexi had successfully achieved an acknowledgement “The Best CDMA Provider” in the Celular Award 2006 program held by the cooperation amongst Ministry of Communication and Information, Indonesian Telecommunication Community (Mastel), and Majalah Seluler (cellular magazine). The Award was delivered to Director of Network and Solution, I Nyoman G. Wiryanata in April 4, 2007 at Grand Melia Hotel, Jakarta.
Eddy Kurnia, Vice President of Public and Marketing Communications said that TelkomFlexi was selected as the Best CDMA Provider because of the fact that was based upon several sides. Flexi had successfully recorded an excellent performance compared to the same kind of services. Nowadays, Flexi is the CDMA technology-based telephone service with the broadest coverage area in Indonesia .
By means of service innovation t hrough FlexiCombo feature’s development, Flexi had successfully broadened its mobility treatment covering more than 200 cities in Indonesia . “FlexiCombo was suggested the best choice for the society who need cheap telephone services with broader mobility’s qualifications other than ordinary telephone services”, said Eddy Kurnia.
From the side of customer base, the position of Flexi nowadays is leading compared to other CDMA operators with the support of more than 4 millions customers all over Indonesia. Eddy stated that Flexi customers was projected to achieve more or less 6 million lines in service.
Particularly for tariff, Flexi with its cheap tariff is one of those which influenced the reduction of telephone cellular tariff in Indonesia, especially cellular and GSM services. Moreover, Flexi offers a very cheap tariff for phone calls among users. For local call for instance, Flexi only set Rp. 49 for the tariff per minute.
According to Eddy, although today Flexi is the leading among other CDMA services, Telkom consider there are a lot of things to be improved continuously for Flexi service in order to be well-approved by the society. “The recognition as the Best CDMA provider will motivate our spirit to make far better performance for Flexi service in the future,” Eddy said.

Telkom Successfully Wins a Contract of Satellite Transponder Procurement for RTTL-Timor Leste

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk (Telkom) succeeded in winning a contract of leasing satellite transponder carried out by Radio Televisao de Timor Leste – RTTL. The contract signing was executed in Dilli on April 13, 2007 with the amount of contract value gained by Telkom amounting US$ 1.3 million.
At the time of the contract signing, Telkom was represented by Director of Enterprise & Wholesale Arief Yahya, while the government of Timor Leste was represented by Director of Procurement Services at Ministry of Planning & Finance Gregorio Ferreira da Silva. The signing was also witnessed by Timor-Leste’s Minister of Transportation & Telecommunications Inacio Moreira, Chief of Ministry Board Antoninho Bianco, President RTTL Expedito Dias Ximenes, and Ambasador of Indonesia for Timor-Leste Achmad Bey Sofwan.
According to Arief Yahya, the success of winning the contract is very meaningful for Telkom as the Infocom Flag Carrier of Indonesia. “Not because of the contract value, but the most important thing is the trust of Timor-Leste government to Telkom in participating for building telecommunications infrastructure in that country.” Said Arief.
Such winning all at once indicated the capability of Telkom to compete with telecommunications providers of other countries. Arief added that the trust dedicated to RTTL Tomor-Leste would not be meaningless. He expected the cooperation of leasing satellite transponder will open collaboration in other fields in Timor-Leste, the country having 15,007 square kilometers width and 1,040,880 inhabitants. “Telkom has adequately experienced in that region, consequently Telkom understand the situation and conditions of telecommunications in that country” Arief stated
The contract collaborated with Timor-Leste gave more opportunity for Telkom towards telecommunications business in the region. “ Such cooperation will be enhanced to other countries as well”, continued Arief.
Telkom owned Telkom-1 Satellite. It was launched in August 12, 1999 using Ariane 4 vehicle and occupied an orbit slot of 108E. Telkom 1 Satellite which had 36 transponder capacity was utilised to broadcast TelkomVision-Cable TV services.
